What happens when everything we've taken for granted vanishes, the future suddenly rears up unpredictably in front of us, and we're no longer in charge of our lives? Open Hearts is about four human beings and their sudden, unprepared-for encounter with the fragility of life and the power of love. Cecilie (Sonja Richter) and Joachim (Nikolaj Lie Kaas) are young and in love. They are soon to get married and they have their whole lives ahead of them. But then things go wrong and all of a sudden everything is transformed. Marie and Niels are both in their late thirties. They're happily married and they have three children but their marriage is sorely tested when Niels falls passionately in love with Cecilie. The question is whether Niels and Cecilie are ready to give up everything for the sake of their love. Open Hearts is about losing control, looking life in the face, and having the courage to go for the love of your life. Sometimes love is greatest when you least expect it.
