Long before 'The Great Escape' Director Jack Lee (Robbery Under Arms, A Town Like Alice) brings to the screen this incredible true story based on the novel 'The Tunnel Escape' by Eric Williams. It is World War Two in Nazi Germany, and three desperate British Prisoners of War hatch a daring plan derived from the Trojan horse of Greek mythology. They plot to escape using a gymnastic vaulting horse to cover their tunnelling activities. They construct a large wooden vaulting horse, which is placed over the concealed tunnel entry in full view of the enemy guards. This suspense-filled war classic stars Leo Genn (Moby Dick, The Longest Day), David Tomlinson (Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks) and Anthony Steel. The film was nominated for Best Film for the 1951 BAFTA Awards and also features a cameo role by a young Peter Finch.
