The Hidden Fortress (Kakushi Toride no san Akunin) (1958)
The Hidden Fortress (Kakushi Toride no san Akunin) (1958)
This is the movie that inspired George Lucas' script for the 1977 classic STAR WARS. Lured by the promise of gold, two peasants accompany a haughty girl and a gruff warrior through enemy territory - not knowing that the girl is in fact the Princess Yuki accompanied by her general Rokurota.
Filled with beautiful cinematography, generous amounts of comedy and some of the finest action sequences ever filmed - THE HIDDEN FORTRESS was the first of Kurosawa's films to be shot in 'widescreen' and is a must for all fans of great film-making.
