Battle Science is a visual guide to the technology and tactics of individual weapons systems. Part 1 includes four episodes of this series.

Perfect War

In 1991, Iraq had one of the most powerful armies in the world. On a World War Two battlefield, it might have inflicted great damage. What the world saw was a World War II army against the force of a 21st century army.

One Man Army

In the winter of 1943, Russian and Nazi armies clashed at Stalingrad in a battle that would prove the turning point of World War II. The heroes of the struggle were not the tankers, or the artillerymen, but the snipers. Science had begun to turn the humble footsoldier into a formidable killing machine.

Hitting the Target

Until the Colonel Miller’s laser guided bombed ripped apart the Thanh Hoa Bridge in 1972, destroying the target had been a hit-or-miss affair. Now science has at last made it possible for every bomb to hit home ensuring every mission is a success.

Supergun

At the end of the Gulf War in 1991, UN arms inspection teams discovered a huge gun in the depths of the Iraqi desert. Supergun is the story of how the maverick Dr Bull built this gun.
