In this episode, we take a tour through the digestive tract, a 24-foot long tube that’s absolutely essential to life. Along the way, we make frequent stops as we learn what organs like the oesophagus, the stomach and intestines do and what can go wrong with them. We meet a farmer who has suffered from Crohn’s disease since childhood, watch a skilled surgeon remove an inflamed gallbladder and accompany health inspectors as they investigate a restaurant for violations that could lead to food poisoning. Finally, we witness a colonoscopy – a procedure that could drastically cut deaths from colon cancer.
