"Knowing Ricahrd Black" is a microcosm of a weeklong chain of events jump-started by a chance meeting in a bar late one Monday evening. The story begins as Jon Marc hooks up with his friend Vanena as she entertains her friend Marilyne, who is from Africa and in town on business for one week. Jon Marc finds out that Vanena has made a promise to Marilyne that before she returns to the motherland on Sunday, she will make sure that Marilyne "experiences" a black man. This promise is challenging to keep, not only because it has to take place in one week's time, but also because Marilyne, an African in her late thirties, early forties, has never had an intimate relationship with a man of her own race. She has exclusively dated white men.Out of this conundrum a reality film is born. Tuesday morning begins with Award-winning producer/director Jon Marc Sandifer embarking on a mission to solicit numerous men to accompany Marilyne on a series of dates, but there's one catch. Their interaction is totally candid. Everyone is secretly filmed from behind closed doors, making it possible to capture their most honest and unadulterated expressions and opinions on camera. The execution of the premise of "Knowing Richard Black" is so engaging that you'll be defenseless against being sucked into watching a playful game of "Blind Date" turn into a diabolical web of lies and deceit.
