This was the final when the monkey was removed from Port's back. The game in which the Power really came of age. The much vaunted Geelong defence was simply no match for the strength and marking power of Brendon Lade, Warren Tredrea and Toby Thurstans who had 39 possessions, took 12 marks and kicked six goals between them. At the other end the Port backmen would restrict Geelong to only nine goals on the way to a 55 point win. Watch out for Byron Pickett in dashing form, Lade who was magnificent and Michael Wilson who handled the dangerous Ablett. This was a great Power victory in a season chock full of them.
