As their relationship deteriorates Ruth becomes obsessive, causing her to lose her job and home. Friend and confidant Desmond Cusson (Ian Holm - "The Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King", "Garden State") takes her and her 10-year old son Andy into his home believing she has ended her relationship with David. However Ruth continues to see him in secret until David tires of her and eventually begins another relationship.
