On 13th July, 1955 Ruth Ellis is sent to the gallows, the last woman to be hanged in Britain - a death that stunned millions.In the summer of 1953 RUTH ELLIS (Miranda Richardson - "The Phantom of the Opera", "The Hours") a divorcee, mother of two and former prostitute is working as a nightclub hostess. Here she meets handsome racing car driver David Blakely (Rupert Everett - "Shrek 2", "Stage Beauty") and they begin a tempestuous love affair marked by violent quarrels. As their relationship deteriorates Ruth becomes obsessive, causing her to lose her job and home. Friend and confidant Desmond Cusson (Ian Holm - "The Lord of The Rings: The Return of the King", "Garden State") takes her and her 10-year old son Andy into his home believing she has ended her relationship with David. However Ruth continues to see him in secret until David tires of her and eventually begins another relationship. On Easter Sunday 1955 Ruth waits for David outside a pub.
