The triumph of Varian Fry is in the way in which he changed the world. The Tragedy is that the world has forgotten him. In 1940, Varian Fry (Academy Award Winner William Hurt) arrives in France with a private American relief organisation. With a short list of roughly 200 names and an elaborate escape network, Fry is soon approached by thousands of other refugees looking to evade the Gestapo. Over the next year Fry wins freedom for thousands of men and women facing extermination. For these activities he is relentlessly pursued by Vichy authorities and arrested. As the years passed, Fry is forgotten by all except those he helped to save. Varians war unveils an astonishing and unknown chapter of the Holocaust. Also starring Julia Ormond, Alan Arkin and Academy Award nominee Lynn Redgrace.
