Charles Mingus was one of the all-time great jazz bass players but more than that he was also an innovative composer and a leader with a clear vision of where he wanted his music to go. In 1975 he made his first appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival, joined by the players who had worked with him on the landmark Changes One and Changes Two albums, from which the set was primarily drawn. As an extra treat, on the last two tracks they are joined by guests Gerry Mulligan on baritone sax and Benny Bailey on trumpet.
