The man was Ned Kelly, who was executed at Melbourne Gaol in November 1880. Although Bog Irish in spirit, he was Australian by mirth and manner, sometimes larrikin, sometimes gentleman, never self-important, never devious. A fine bushman and horse-man, a bush battler in a land which still admires those qualities.

This four part miniseries is a historical document in itself. Created by the late Bronwyn Binns and Ian Jones (who had spent 39 years researching the Kelly story) the script combines art with fanatical accuracy. It refuses heroes and villains, allowing the audience to make their own judgements. It is rich in subtlety and sub-plots. It is about people, flawed and real, not caricatures. Everything from location, costumes, buildings, even the position of a swag on a saddle, has been conceived with a sense of getting it right.

Australia's greatest folk hero. This is the true story of Ned Kelly - "The Last Outlaw".
