Pierre Richard returns as Francis Veber's walking accident, François Pignon, alongside Gérard Depardieu's straight-guy, Jean Lucas, in the huge international hit, Les Fugitifs. On release from prison, reformed bank-robber Lucas visits a bank-only to be taken hostage by bumbling would-be bank-robber François. Naturally, the French police believe that Lucas is up to his old tricks and is really the brains behind the robbery, and that François is actually the hostage. After learning of François' plight-he needs the money to help his daughter who has been mute since her mother's death-Lucas decides to take control, resulting in a comic masterpiece of role reversal and farcical misadventure.
