The great hipster film of the French new wave, Bande `a part (The Outsiders) is Jean-Luc Godard's classic take on the American pulp crime movie. Namesake Quentin Tarantino's production company (Bande `a part, inspired the famous dance sequence in Pulp Fiction), the film, told with detached Gallic cool, pioneered daring cinematic devices that revolutionised filmmaking.

A simple story of two young delinquents, Franz and Arthur, who befriend a beautiful girl, Odile (Anna Karina - Godard's then wife), and conspire to commit a robbery, Bande `a part is best remembered for its quirky set pieces; the celebrated mad dash through the Louvre; Arthur and Franz feverously reading crime-scenes from the daily tabloid; the re-enactment of Billy the Kid shoot-out. And of course, the heralded scene where the young Parisian pranksters dance the Madison in a half-empty cafe.
