Anthony Quinn (Lawrence of Arabia, La Strada) stars in this sweeping culture-clash drama from acclaimed director Nicholas Ray (Johnny Guitar, Rebel Without a Cause). Inuk (Quinn) is a typical Eskimo hunter, living proudly as his ancestors did, seeking out an existence on the frozen Canadian tundra. When Inuk takes his wife to a trading post to exchange furs, the family befriend a friendly priest (Marco Guglielmi) and share their different cultures and traditions. But when Inuk makes a customary offer of his wife to the missionary, a refusal severely offends the proud Eskimo and results in a harsh payback. Soon Inuk is pursued by two mounted police - including Oscar®-winner Peter O'Toole (The Last Emperor) - but the lawmen and their prisoner encounter severe weather and a twisting route to justice. Nominated, Golden Palm, Cannes Film Festival (1960).
