A Texas oil billionaire (Burt Lancaster), the Academy Award winning star of From Here to Eternity attempts to buy out a remote Scottish fihing village for an oil refinery, and sends his ace dealmaker Mac (Peter Riegert, The Mask) to secure his property rights. However local eccentric Ben Knox (Fulton Mackay, Britannia Hospital) refuses to sell his beach and Mac is forced to negotiate on Ben's terms. An acclaimed comedy from writer/director Bill Forsyth (Gregory's Girl), Local Hero ranks as a British classic in the great tradition of films like I Know Where I'm Going! and Whiskey Galore! and provides a witty contrast between urban Texas and rural Scotland. It also features a superb soundtrack by Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits.
