Johnny is an aspiring though mildly talented musician, infatuated with suede and Ricky Nelson. He appears to be a loner, his only friend is a house painter named Deke. After being dumped by Darlette, who Johnny thought of as the girl of his dreams, he forms a band. Johnny and the Persueders, an unlikely quartet of misfits drawn from the neighbourhood.
