It's summer, with a family holiday by the sea and summer romance. It's Anaïs' first experience of love, but she makes this discovery by proxy. She observes her older sister, Elena, whom she loves (and hates).

Elena is fifteen and diabolically beautiful. Neither more futile or stupid than Anaïs, she doesn't realise she is simply a desired object, there to be taken and had.

This summer, the door to tragedy is opened wide, with the loss of virginity.

"****1/2 Catherine Breillat is probably the most interesting woman director in the world today"
- DAVID STRATTON, The Movie Show

"**** Truly imaginative and searchingly honest"
- MARGARET POMERANZ, The Movie Show

"A poignant salute to the consolations and complications of sibling love"
- SANDRA HALL, Sydney Morning Herald

"Spellbinding"
- LEIGH PAATSCH, Herald Sun

"Ms. Reboux's extraordinary performance conveys Anais' mixture of precocious insight, animal canniness and vulnerability so powerfully that it ranks among the richest screen portrayals of a child ever filmed."
- STEPHEN HOLDEN, New York Times
