The natives are dying from a lethal cocktail of neurotoxins. The most likely cause is a venomous spider bite. Ex-Navy pilot, Loren Mercer, has joined the expedition to look for her brother, who disappeared whilst on a mission in the same area. When Mercer's team find his body, trapped in a cocoon, it becomes clear that the extraterrestrial arachnid is more than just a new species of spider.
