Effie follows in the tradition of Barry Humphries’ satirical creation, Dame Edna Everage and Garry McDonald’s Norman Gunston, where a naïve character who has hitherto been denied a place and status, suddenly finds themselves in the spotlight, grabs the microphone and takes over the show.
Effie: Just Quietly is a six-part series featuring the iconoclastic Effie, Australia’s own suburban Greek hair goddess; who naively interrogates the inherent and often ludicrous contradictions in our everyday attitudes and prejudices. Each episode focuses on a controversial and relevant issue affecting the way in which we live.
