Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-1653) was one of the first well-known female painters. This movie tells the story of her youth, however, her artistic curiosity about the male anatomy, forbidden for her eyes, led her to the knowledge of sexual pleasure.
She becomes embroiled in the trial of a her teacher, who is accused of raping her. A powerful "passion, politics painting" melodrama, the haunting Artemisia explodes with talent. Nominated 'Best Foreign Language Film' 1998 Golden Globe Award.
