Young Paul Ashworth suddenly finds his lifetime passion when dragged reluctantly to see Arsenal on one of his father's brief trips home. 24 years later he's an unorthodox, deeply pessimistic thirty something English teacher at a North London comprehensive, whose life highs and lows are mirrored by his team's performance. Enter the new teacher, Sarah. She thinks he's a yob and he thinks she's uptight. Naturally they hit it off but with Arsenal in with a chance for the championship, after 18 years, it's a question of which relationship will prove the strongest.
Set against the backdrop of the 1988-89 football season, Fever Pitch is "Hysterically funny, unsentimentally poignant and fabulously entertaining".
