By 1988, Zulu choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo (named after the township of Ladysmith where they came together more than a decade ago) had received a coveted Grammy award and had achieved international prominence and acclaim through their association with Paul Simon. The astonishing ten-piece group accompanied Simon on two tracks on his ground breaking Graceland album ('Diamonds On The Soles Of Her Shoes' and 'Homeless') and then toured the concerts of the world with him.
Journey Of Dreams unfolds the aspirations of a people to whom music is much more than entertainment. To black Africa, music is a voice, a rallying cry, a mode of worship. On every one of those levels, Ladysmith Black Mambazo are a yardstick by which other vocal ensemles are measured.
