The Australian cricket team arrived in South Africa as strong favourites to retain their 1999 World Cricket Cup title. They were the team to beat - but could anyone do it?
From their opening match, a crushing victory over Pakistan, the men in green and gold demonstrated their determination to take home the title. This powerful performance set the tone for the rest of the tournament as they ruthlessly overcame every challenge that confronted them with all the players playing outstanding cricket. A team highlight came with the defeat of traditional enemy England when they fought back from the brink of defeat and went on to set a new world record for consecutive one day wins.
In the final they faced the much-fancied Indians, who in Sachin Tendulkar had the player of the tournament on their side...it made little difference! After a brilliant batting display and the early dismissal of Tendulkar the mighty Aussies cruised to a superb victory.
This programme recounts every step of the journey and features all the key moments of their unbeaten campaign. Enjoy all over again Symonds' ferocious century against Pakistan, Andy Bichel's seven wicket haul against England and Brett Lee's magical hat-trick as Australia proved to the world they really are the one day wonders!
