When Elvis Presley passed away in 1977 no one could have predicted the impact his death would have on the fans who had supported him throughout his storied career. After a period of profound grief, they simply carried on… as if he had never left. In this edition of the Elvis story, we look at the profound effects worldwide of the King’s death and how his fans coped and carried on.
The first episode, ‘All the King’s disciples – The fans’, looks at the ways in which the fans reacted to the loss of their hero and how they responded. The second episode, ‘Elvis Is Gone’, looks more at the impacts of those closest to Elvis, with interviews with close friends such as Memphis Mafia member Joe Esposito, Connie Stevens, Jackie DeShannon and Celeste Yarnall, amongst others.
