At the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, as Saigon fell, thousands of Vietnamese refugees flocked to the shores of California seeking asylum and a new home. Leaving behind friends, loved ones and dreams, they waited uncertainly as a nation struggled to embrace them. They would be the first in a wave of immigrants representing a new generation in American history. This is their story. A story the world forgot. While one man, Sgt. Jim Lance (Patrick Swayze - City of Joy), fights to uphold the dignity of this foreign nation, another, Addie (Forest Whitaker - Phone Booth) reaches out to a young boy in the hope of unlocking his spirit and heart. They will all embark on a journey that takes them through the shadows and light of their souls to discover they speak a common language: Compassion.
