Comments: There seems to be an issue with discs 1 and 4 of this set not playing back properly on some DVD players. Precise information is hard to come by, but XBoxes and PS/2s seem to be commonly involved. It is not clear exactly where the problem lies, although there are some reports that exchanging the discs works. Fox have acknowledged that there is a "minor problem" with some Futurama discs. Toshiba 2109/MGM disc workaround #1 (thanks to various site readers who trialled
this method):
- Insert DVD and wait for it to stop responding
- Press STOP 3 times
- Press the TITLE button
Toshiba 2109/MGM disc workaround #2 (thanks to Ben H):
- Insert disc into player
- While the display on the front of the player is flashing LOADING,
repeatedly press the STOP button on the player (the remote may be too slow).
What you are trying to achieve here is to stop the disc before the laser
pickup reaches its first destination (the point at which it usually hangs
up). One second too late and the player will hang up, hence press STOP
repeatedly.
- Once stopped, use the "RCE Workaround" to access the main
feature:
- Press MEMORY
- Enter TITLE number (usually 1 for the main feature)
- Press PLAY
- Press CLEAR (AFTER feature has started)
Access to the main menu (by pressing MENU) from the main
feature should be OK. However, on some discs you may not be able to access the
extra features from the menu - the player may hang up after selecting them. In
this case it is possible (but unlikely) that you may be able to access the extra
features by entering the extra feature TITLE number instead of the main feature
TITLE number in the stopped mode outlined above. In the likely event that this
also does not work, do the following:
- Access the main feature using the above method
- WHILE the movie is playing use the "RCE Workaround" outlined
above to access the extra features by entering the appropriate TITLE number.
