Video Likes 16x9 enhancement is a must. MPEG compression must be near faultless.
Video Dislikes Excessive edge enhancement (eg. Armageddon) followed by vertical aliasing.
Audio Likes A full bodied presentation where possible, with considered use of the surround channels to create a true sonic environment.
Audio Dislikes I find poor vocal integration particularly irksome, especially vocal distortion of any kind.
Favourite DVDs Austin Powers II, The Matrix, Toy Story I & II, Sleepy Hollow, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Fight Club, Eagles: Hell Freezes Over
Least Favourite DVDs Particularly grating is any truly awesome, classic movie on an awful disc. Dune and Blade Runner are particularly good examples of landmark movies given garishly bad treatment. The R4 Fifth Element is also a big upset for me, being truly the finest example of MPEG compression gone horribly wrong, and is almost unwatchable. This is a big pity, because it simply rocks as a movie.
Most Eagerly Awaited DVDs Blade Runner:SE, Star Wars Ep V

Opinions About Specific Movies and their DVDs

Titanic I will pay good money for a 16x9 version - I mean that.
The Matrix A thrilling experience. Perfect video, perfect audio and a great menu system. A sweet DVD to be sure.
Terminator 2 Totally awesome movie. The R1 Ultimate Edition in DTS is a mind-blower.
Star Wars I have watched Episodes IV, V and VI countless times, but not again until they appear on DVD. Episode I is a mediocre movie at best, however its Dolby Digital EX presentation was a sublime experience. My
Godzilla I think it's a brainless, entertaining, well produced DVD with great audio and sound, and fab effects. Very exciting. Just relax and enjoy it. The last half is brilliant!
Independence Day Absolute and total rubbish. As soon as the surface of the moon shook, I knew it was going to be all downhill, and it was.
