The New Mike Hammer (1986)
Ray N
Nostalgic for the time when P.I. shows reigned on prime time TV? A time of huge gas-guzzling cars and women with big, big hair and massive padded shoulders? The TV series The New Mike Hammer, with Stacey Keach as Mickey Spillane’s private detective, may be just the thing. The New Mike Hammer ran for 4 seasons and 48 episodes between 1984 and 1987. This 7 DVD set from ViaVision contains all 22 episodes of season 3 plus two full length telemovies.

Orca: The Killer Whale (Blu-ray) (1977)
CallumK
Established fans of Orca: The Killer Whale will likely never sway from their opinion but as a first-time watcher in 2018 the movie has some serious problems and has dated dreadfully. It's got nothing on Jaws. News about Umbrella's Blu-ray release is mixed. The video transfer suffers from an array of problems, mostly in relation to severe print damage, but at least it looks natural and the encode is competent. Meanwhile, the audio is in serious need of clean-up work. Extras are scant but the effort is appreciated. Fans should enjoy the upgrade, especially if they've been clinging onto VHS tapes for decades.

Blade Runner 2049 (Blu-ray) (Bonus Disc) (2017)
CallumK
This edition features the most complete selection of supplements for the movie to date, and they are of good quality. But even with the bonus disc, supplements still feel on the light side, especially in the absence of a commentary and deleted scenes. It's hard to shake the feeling that a double dip is inevitable. Nevertheless, until a double dip materialises (if it does), this set with its strong technical presentation comes highly recommended.

Blade Runner 2049 (Blu-ray) (2017)
CallumK
Universal Sony's Blu-ray presentation of this sci-fi masterpiece is fine, though it has its shortcomings. The 1080p video is a bit compressed but still looks very good, while the 5.1 audio track lacks the fullness and richness of a Dolby Atmos track. While I wish there were more extras, the included supplements are of good quality. All things considered, this one comes highly recommended.

Blade Runner 2049 (4K Blu-ray) (2017)
CallumK
Blade Runner 2049 is a gift from the filmmaking Gods. It's a magnificent tribute to the original Blade Runner, a worthy sequel, and a breathtaking original science fiction movie to boot. It is undeniably one of 2017's best movies and it will stand the test of time. The 4K disc is perfection. The Ultra HD video transfer is staggering from top to bottom, from the textures to the sharpness and the amazing use of HDR, making it the format's new gold standard. The beautifully layered Dolby Atmos track, too, is flawlessly-encoded and represents a step up compared to the standard Blu-ray's 5.1 mix. Throw in the supplements included on the standard Blu-ray, and this one comes highly recommended.
