USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage (Blu-ray) (2016)
CallumK

Cover Art There really isn't much to recommend about U.S.S. Indianapolis: Men of Courage, which amounts to a DTV cheapie as opposed to something more profound or memorable. There is some unintentional comedy, but as a serious movie it utterly fails. Universal Sony's Blu-ray release is better than average, with an impressive technical presentation and a good quality making-of documentary. If there are fans of the movie, the disc has enough merits for a purchase, but it's an easy pass for the rest of us. Rent it. . Sponsored by Disk Doctor.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (4K Blu-ray) (2017)
CallumK

At last, a Marvel Cinematic Universe production has debuted on 4K Blu-ray, more than a year after the format debuted. Although it's not the best UHD presentation I've seen, it's certainly the superior version of the movie and it really shows the benefits of High Dynamic Range. The Atmos track is pitch-perfect, and the included 1080p Blu-ray comes with a variety of worthwhile special features. Highly recommended. . Sponsored by DVD Buzz.

Boot Hill (La collina degli stivali) (1969)
Ray N

Boot Hill is a western starring Terrence Hill and Bud Spencer plus American Woody Strode. However, it is pre-Trinity and so it is not a Hill / Spencer comedy western but a dark and gritty tale of corruption and revenge with greedy villains, gunfighters, clowns, acrobats and other circus performers in the mix. . Kong: Skull Island (Blu-ray) (2017)
CallumK

Kong: Skull Island may prove polarizing to an extent, depending on your expectations. It's more entertaining and competent than 2014's Godzilla, but it lacks any sort of emotion. It's a big, fun monster movie, playing out with an infectious B-grade spirit. I had a great time with it. Roadshow's Blu-ray features a pretty-good video presentation and excellent Dolby Atmos audio, accompanied by a rather scant but nevertheless informative selection of special features. All things considered, this set comes recommended. . Sponsored by DVD Buzz.

Captain America: Civil War (Blu-ray) (2016)
CallumK

Another staggering success for the well-oiled Disney/Marvel machine, Captain America: Civil War manages to be epic in scope yet also intimate. With its amazing action sequences and engaging story, this one holds up on repeat viewings and is absolutely worth owning. Luckily, Disney's Blu-ray is a winner, featuring excellent video and audio, while the supplements are both enjoyable and informative. Fingers crossed we see a 4K release sometime down the line, but this disc nevertheless comes highly recommended. . Sponsored by DeVoteD.

Great Wall, The (Blu-ray) (2016)
Ray N

In The Great Wall Matt Damon is an adventurer caught up in helping the Chinese northern army defend the Great Wall from the Tao Tei, ravenous and deadly mythical beasts who attack the Chinese kingdom every 60 years. Directed by Zhang Yimou (Hero, Raise the Red Lantern), The Great Wall is the most expensive Chinese production ever. . Sponsored by Family Boxoffice.

John Wick: Chapter 2 (Blu-ray) (2017)
CallumK

I loved the original John Wick and was left eager to see a sequel. Thankfully, a sequel has now become a reality, and it's every bit as awesome as its predecessor. John Wick: Chapter 2 is slick, well-made, and gloriously violent. It's one of the best movies of the year. Despite a solid technical presentation and a nice selection of bonus features (though not as many as the American release), I cannot recommend this disc in any capacity because it features the censored edition which was actually prepared for the movie's release in the United Kingdom. Some viewers may not mind so much, but the integrity of a motion picture is paramount for any home video release. Avoid the local release and import a superior edition from overseas. . Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (Blu-ray) (2017)
CallumK

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is a summer blockbuster that manages to be exciting, touching and deep, though it's not exactly one for the uninitiated. It was a riot in the cinema, and it holds up at home. I'm not sure if Vol. 3 can top it, but count me in all the same. Disney's Blu-ray is terrific quality, with top-notch video and audio, and while I wish there were more extras, the special features on the disc are still worthwhile. Therefore, this disc comes highly recommended, especially for fans of the franchise. . Sponsored by Family Boxoffice.

Assassination Classroom (Ansatsu Kyoshitsu) Season 2 Part 2 (Blu-ray) (2015)
Ray N

Assassination Classroom comes to an end with this set of episodes; at the end of this term unless Class 3-E can find a way to kill their teacher, a yellow three metre tall octopod, the world will be destroyed. But is there another way to save the Earth? These episodes are sentimental, emotional, poignant and rather drawn out but fans of the series will no doubt be satisfied with this conclusion to a wacky, wry and funny look at life and the high school experience. .
